Hi, I'm Tails!

I am a full-time artist from West Michigan. I started painting in 2017, when I was 13. By my senior year of high school, I had a solo art show at a gallery. At the end of 2022, I attended Michigan State University as a studio art major, but I dropped out after my first semester because I didn’t want to pay for it anymore. I’m now 21, and I’ve been painting professionally in my bedroom for three years.
I call myself self-taught, and for that reason, I tend to explain art concepts in a very intuitive way because I learned them with a brush in my hand instead of a textbook. Painting is what I’m most passionate about; it’s a deep-rooted obsession that hasn’t escaped me. I can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned that brought me to where I am today.

Course Content
The course is divided into six comprehensive modules featuring over seven hours of lessons and hands-on demonstrations, thoughtfully structured to help you progress step by step. You’ll gain access to 50+ in-depth video lessons you can pause, replay, and revisit anytime as you strengthen your skills and artistic voice. This course welcomes everyone — from intermediate artists refining their technique to passionate painters wanting a look into another artist's meticulous tips. Each module builds on the last, starting with materials and ideation, then color theory, before my underpainting and oil process. As a self-proclaimed impressionist, I promise you that I don't have a horribly rigid or academic perspective on creation. I always offer a diverse array of thought processes, explaining each in turn, only condemning the theories and techniques that are legitimately destructive. I make some decisions that are not for everybody, and I will instruct in a way that you understand when and how to break my rules.

Modules 1 & 2
Philosophy & Materials
I open up this course by establishing a greater conversation about creative philosophy that trails through my entire process. More than just technique, I think it is very important to have strong opinions about why you create the way you do. That leads into a 50 minute module where I spill everything I know about materials. I’ll tell you what to get, what not to get, how to use it, and I debunk a couple of painting rules that are designed to make you buy stuff you don't need.
Modules 3 & 4
Ideation & Color Theory
This is when our original painting starts! I talk about how to get painting ideas. We create a mood board together. I take my reference photos, analyze them, and edit them for painting. Then we sketch and analyze my sketches. This module has an intense focus on image construction. Before we dive into paint, I briefly cover all of the color theory that was not explained in application.
Module 5
Acrylic Underpainting & Oil Overpainting
My painting process is always split between 2 very clean halves. During the acrylic underpainting, there is a lot of focus put into building the strongest possible foundation for a successful painting. The first hour of a painting is almost always the most important, so I really slow down my process (with respect to your time and entertainment, of course.) In the oil overpainting, we take a much closer look at the smaller decisions that make a painting masterful
